Welcome to the Hearing Experience and Language Learning Outcomes Lab

The HELLO Lab is dedicated to exploring one of the most fundamental aspects of life, language.

OUR MISSION

Mother plays with daughter with a variety of toys while wearing eye trackers. Mother holds item up to child's face.

EXPLORE

Explore how early auditory experiences and parent-child interactions shape the foundation of spoken language learning, thereby opening new avenues for effective interventions and support.

BRIDGE THE GAP

Bridge the gap between science and practical applications.

COLLABORATE

Collaborate with educators, parents, and communities to bring about positive changes in language learning opportunities and outcomes for all children.

The HELLO Lab acknowledges that we exist within a world of diversities: Diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and language; diversity of racial, ethnic, cultural, gender, sex, physical, intellectual, and psychological identities; diversity of viewpoints and preferences on everything from which laws should and shouldn’t be passed to who we love to what are acceptable foods for breakfast.

Science seeks to discover truths that will help us navigate the world better. Because the world is diverse, so must science be. For science to fully discover the truths of a diverse world, it must be conducted with a full representation of that diversity. And to ask the right questions of the diverse world, science must be conducted by a full representation of that diversity. To achieve these requirements, science must foster a culture where the full diversity of people feel included and treated equitably. Otherwise, science remains a club for only some and ignorant of all others. We include researchers, community partners, self-advocates, and more as collaborators to meet these goals.
